Black reeded closed corner frame with 14k white gold corner caps
This frame was designed for a Kevin Sonmor painting. I wanted to keep the frame dark to hold the white expanse of the paintings background as the painting measures close to 6 feet square. The water-gilded caps are placed in the corner to hint at classical frame structure (embellishments in the corners and sometimes in the centre) but they are left very sharp and clean lined to bring them into the modern period. The reeding carved into the raised panel is there to contrast with the clean gilding but also to refract the light in a different way from the exterior black panel. It also gives the frame a masculine feel which I feel is in keeping with the work horse: farm, bundled reeds possibly bundled wheat shafts.
